Leaning Tower

The Leaning Tower of Pisa
Unlike other medieval cities in 1173, Pisa Italy was rich and wanted to flaunt it. The idea was to construct a bell tower so amazingly tall that Florence would be totally jealous. Unbeknownst at the time, the seaside terrain of Pisa was too soft to support such a tall tower. The construction took over 200 years to complete, and as the tower went higher it's leaning because more pronounced - but this did not dissuade the people of Pisa and thanks to a series of engineering marvels, it still stands today and will stand forever.
